CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant upgrades to their camera systems, performance, and battery longevity. Both models are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera featuring a variable aperture. They are powered by the new A20 Pro chip along with an upgraded vapor chamber. Additionally, Apple has redesigned the Dynamic Island to display more information. Preorders kick off on September 12, with sales beginning September 18 in over 65 countries and regions.

The revamped Main camera incorporates six laser-cut blades to switch between four aperture settings, allowing users to control depth of field and light intake through the Camera app. Pro controls now include manual options for shutter speed and white balance. A histogram feature assists in exposure monitoring prior to capturing photos or recording videos. Photographic Styles now offer controls for texture and grain. The devices also support post-capture Cinematic effects for videos shot at up to 60 frames per second.

Apple introduces Reference Image, a new tool to verify whether photographs have been altered post-capture. When using the Main camera, signed sensor data is recorded in Reference mode, which is then processed into a reference image via Private Cloud Compute. Users can compare this reference with the original photo within the Photos app. The company plans to add support for SynthID later in 2026, and states that image metadata will serve as an additional method for identifying AI-generated or edited content.

Variable aperture enhances camera control options

Built on a 2-nanometer process, the A20 Pro combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, which Apple claims delivers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. It features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores in total. The new thermal system connects the processor more directly to a larger vapor chamber, offering three times the surface area of the previous generation. This design aims to boost sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life has been extended on both models, with larger improvements seen in eSIM-only versions. The iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours. Wired accessories can charge the Pro model to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only variants replace the physical SIM tray and will launch in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI makes its debut with iOS 27

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when responding to requests, and it can also interpret on-screen information. Cloud-based tasks are managed through Private Cloud Compute, whereas other functions operate directly on the device.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Users can select from storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail availability starting September 18 in the initial markets, followed by 20 additional countries and regions on September 25.
